Hello!

I am new to the community so I wanted to start with that =P

Anyway, I am entering a "bumper contest" for our local film festival, The Traverse City Film Festival, sponsored by Michael Moore. He reopened our state theatre downtown and is pretty active here.

I have only had about a week to work on this, and have essentially 0 footage, but I was curious what you guys thought of my layout and plan

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvK2eKzl7jo

The color's are obviously fillers, I used so I could get all my keyframing and planning out of the way while we have bad weather. My last scene with the blue screen will be a pretty awesome last scene, My wife will be sitting on a deck during sunset over the bay, and I setup a handwritten text to show up behind it, with my own personal catchphrase I thought up.

I've been dabbling in Sony Vegas for about a year, and am completely new to after effects, which the hand written text thing was done in. Once I get more footage in I will post an update. Final edit will be rendered 1920x1080 awesome HD

TLDR: Whaddya think of my video?

It's good, maybe some audio of it moving from scene to scene, such as it locking into place, or movement sounds, you get what I mean?

a couple friends of mine are really good with FLstudio and such, we're gonna sit down and create the music to fit the scene. I am also gonna start scanning the freemusic sites.

Be careful about those free music sites, some of them contain copyrighted content, and you're not aloud to use them on your productions, I suggest using Royalty Free sound effects and music, some good Royalty Free Sound Effects can be found in the video copilot "Designer Sound Effects" and "Pro Scores" for royalty free music.

I got some more footage this morning and getting some more tomorrow and I'll show you an updated project.

Would you suggest any effects over the videos when it zooms in? I was thinking maybe a water drop effect using Spicemaster on the clip as I am zooming in, but im having trouble with spicemaster.

or do you think I should keep it as is with no effect over the clips before I zoom into them.

Also gonna ask here so I dont have to create a new thread =P

what is it called when you focus on a background image, then change focus to a closer object, and can it be done in vegas?

I am at work so I can't test it, and no access to youtube to check it out

Looking forward to the updated project.

Test it with the Spicemaster, and have one without the Spicemaster (including sound effects).

It can be done on Vegas by adding an "Event FX", called "Sony Defocus", just use key frames to key when you want the different objects to be blurred, to make the object to not be blurred, change all the settings to 0, then you can key frame how much blur, and when.

Aguul, I posted an updated video, a couple actually. Made some changes (didn't like the spicemaster effect), and added sound.

I can't post a link because youtube is blocked here at work, but it's on my youtube page, 2.666666667 or whatever I called it. Check it out and tell me what you think ^^

Hi Enormosaurus, nice work!

Hope you don't mind, but I worked up a quick version with some additional sound effects.  You can view it here:

http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ofenjfjyge2

Basically I added a slight film reel sound to the background.  A camera shutter sound when the images "locked" into place, a suction cup sound when the images "released" from full frame, a whoosh sound when the film plane passes the camera and a waves sample for the ending of the file.

Most of the sounds were edited slightly, like the whoosh was clipped and slowed and the camera shutter was truncated for example.

Hopefully that'll give you some ideas to work with. :)

Oh wow, Thanks Kylania! I really like the added sounds, gives the sound as a whole more depth. And I definitely appreciate you linking where you got the sounds, I will have to do some experimenting with them when I get home!

I initially tried to use the original sound that was captured on the last clip, but there was a feint sound of a crying baby that drove me nuts!

My favorite is the "whoosh" as the frame makes the pass

Glad you like it!  Here's the Vegas Project for the demo I made.  You'll of course want to replace the video with your source copy, but you'll be able to see the changes to the sound files I'd made.

These sound clips definitely go well with my video, thanks again! I ended up removing the reel sound in the background, and did some tweaking on volumes. I might make a change to the last scene, lookin for some feint birds to go in there. But that'll get finished tomorrow.

It's really turning out well, thank you both for the tips/help.
