Closing the preview helps with that. If I have a lot of stuff with a 3d alpha composition it takes a long time for everything to load, weighs down my pc. But to answer, it probably lags because its trying to load everything at once with the timeline and the preview, its just really hard on your computer. I have a logitech g19 so I can watch my RAM and cpu while im working, it tends to spike to 100% cpu usage and use most of my RAM also.

Why it lags: Your Sony Vegas is probably lagging because your project is full of effects, and it's finding it hard to process them via the live preview, so it may lag. I suggest you RAM preview by simply selecting your workspace, then pressing SHIFT+B. If you're not talking about the live preview lagging, then it may be because you may have low RAM, or your CPU may be processing to many applications at once. If you're not talking about this type of lag, then please reply with more detail, such as how it is lagging, when it is lagging, and what is lagging. I hope this information helped you.
