The current build of Sony Vegas Pro 9 64-bit does is not supported for AVI files, as I found out because I couldn't put my recordings from CamTasia Recorder, into my Sony Vegas Pro 64-bit. Though, I installed the 32-bit, and I have not experienced any issues to do with AVI files yet.

Quick answer: Sony Vegas Pro 9 64-bit does not support AVI files yet, though, the 32 bit version does.

Sony Vegas 9.0c supports them.  I downgraded after I saw how bad 9.0e was at dealing with FRAPS files, my main source of footage.  I'd suggest downgrading your install till they can fix the problem.
